Alcohol Abuse, Drug Abuse, Cell Phone Abuse, (all Deadly!)

Should talking on cell phones be illegal to motorist while they are operating a vehicle? Of course, to answer this question, one cannot answer without a logical explanation supporting their answer. Unless you happen to belong to mothers against drunk drivers (MADD), for they are not concerned about the children who are victims of those under the influence of cell phone abuse. They refuse to discuss the issue. All they are concerned about are alcohol related fatalities. I suppose they would rather see their children killed by cell phone abusers than drunk drivers. Or is because the cellular telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) has given wireless phones to MADD chapters throughout the country along with free airtime.

Those who die in traffic accidents are just as dead whether killed by drug use, fatigue, or falling asleep at the wheel, alcohol intoxication, or inattention caused by cell phone use while driving.

A study in the New England journal of medicine found that drivers who use mobile phones were four times more likely to crash than those not, a rate equal to that of drunken driving at the .01 level. At least 25 countries restrict or prohibit cell or other wireless technology.

I personally carry a cell phone with me while driving; however, the only reason being is if I should break down on the road, then I would call for assistance while my car was immobilized. Why some people have to talk socially while driving I simply, do not understand.

We live in a country based on the belief in freedom; certainly, we are free as long as our actions do not put other innocent lives in jeopardy. Driving while under the influence of cell phone abuse is dangerous, and should be illegal in all states.

Making cell phones illegal while operating a motor vehicle is not an attack on an individual’s rights. Any country which allows their citizens the freedom to recklessly endanger the lives of others is worst than a country that supports terrorism.

Just as we lock up those driving under the influence of alcohol, so should we do the same to those driving under the influence of cell phone addiction. Surely, your friends can wait until you get home to hear about the new dress you just bought, it may save a life, perhaps your own.

David, I'm in agreement with you, although guilty of talking with one hand on my mobile and the other on the steering wheel. I use the headset about 85% of the time and could very well use it 100% or don't talk and drive. Safety comes first! Great article, thank you!

Studies show that people who drive automobiles are responsible for 100% of all auto accidents, while people who don't drive are responsible for 0%. Why don't we all stop driving? Problem solved, and another freedom taken away from us by the utopian elite.

I don’t believe those seeking a utopian or (idealistic dreamers) those seeking a better way of life threaten our freedom. As you, say the “elite” not the utopian elite but the established elite. Or so they call themselves. Lock them up then perhaps there would be less stress on our highways. This would lead to safer driving. However, they actually believe they are sane, so we have to deal with these realists who are in control of our lives.
