At 63 years old and being single (never married) and not going out with anyone today. Valentines Day doesn’t have much meaning to me however; the day does hold significance in my life for my father’s funeral was on Valentine’s Day of 1985.
Valentine’s Day of 1968 also had meaning in my life. For on this day I got into in my first firefight in Vietnam. We lost many good men on that day and suffered many casualties. I have an article I wrote about this day on Wryte Stuff in June of 08, if anyone cares to read it, you can find it here.
Looking back at my childhood, I remember how as schoolchildren we would give Valentine cards to all of our classmates. Yes, those were fun times however those days are long gone. At 63 years old, one might conclude my love days are over. Nevertheless, who knows perhaps cupid may draw back his bow someday when I’m not expecting it and I may fall in love.
