Disobedience and Rebellion

“Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion.” Oscar Wilde

Yes, we as Americans have won our independence and freedom through disobeying our King. Our founding fathers rebelled against the monarchy of England. They believed created equal in the eyes of God were all men.

All through history not only in this country, however in countries throughout the world disobedience and rebellious behavior were virtues, which enabled men to rise above the norm of everyday living.

In fact, our nurturing in biblical teaching tells us how disobedience led us as the human race to lose our role living in the Garden of Eden and put on our own.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was also a rebel whom rebelled against the establishment of his day, for to rebel against evil is the way of our God in heaven. With two opposing forces in the world “good and evil”, we find ourselves following either the good or the evil.

Those of us who choose to follow in the good may find our journey here on earth more difficult than those who choose to follow evil. For the path to righteousness is not an easy way of living our lives. It means loving our neighbor despite all of their faults, this can be a very difficult task to partake in here on earth.

To shun away from God and live our lives without him on our side is the easy although not the right way to take. Sometimes we must rebel against established law to overcome evil in our lives.

When Columbus set sail to discover a new land although he had the approval of the Queen to pursuit his dream the people of his day warned against such a perilous trip filled with complications such as coming into contact with dragons and all sorts of monsters and perhaps sailing right off the earth believing the world was flat.

Many great men and women achieved their greatness by first acknowledging their beliefs and going beyond established law.

I find this inspiring, David. I was thinking just today how hard it is to fly in the face of established law sometimes; it often draws a lot of criticism or it's just downright scary. But it does bring the reward of being true to yourself and feeling connected to God - in the broadest sense of the world.
