On May 5, 1961, I was only 12 years old I attended a small country school at this time. What was special about this day was a history-making day it was then that Alan Shepard became the first American in space.
I remember it was on a Friday the day our music teacher came to our school. I remember that day very well she came running into our class and told us to come outside she had the broadcast on her car radio. We listened intently as history was taking place that day.
It was a very short mission he didn’t orbit the earth just went up into space and back to earth, he landed in the Atlantic Ocean.
Yes this was almost 51 years ago boy it don’t seem possible I guess I’m getting old although I don’t feel it. This day was out of the usual for my school classmates and me.
