My first Christmas

My first Christmas I was only one month old so of course I don’t remember that one, I suppose when I was about six or seven is when I can remember from today.
It was a tradition in our family to celebrate Christmas beginning on Christmas Eve. e.g., we would go to the midnight mass, then go home, and begin opening presents we would be up all night long. On the other hand, should I say all morning long for from midnight on we celebrated?
Christmas was such a thrill to us in those days of course to children everywhere Christmas is an exciting time in their lives even today.
I remember one Christmas I got a toy horse to ride on. I must have been about five or six at the time I really enjoyed riding my toy horse and playing cowboys. Yes, the Christmases of yesterday I hold dear to my heart for the true meaning of the season came through loud and clear.
Of course, I don’t get as excited today as I use to when I was a child. However, the spirit of the occasion still comes through today.
My first Christmas away from home was in 1967 when I spent Christmas in Vietnam. I remember that day very clearly. They passed around hard candy on Christmas Eve as we stood watch on the lines.
Me and my younger brother Mike taken around 1950 or 51
