Science and Religion working Correspondingly

Many Scientists Don’t See S & R as Always in Conflict Rice sociologist Elaine Ecklund and her team interviewed 275 tenured and tenure-track faculty members from 21 research universities in the United States. Only 15 percent of respondents said religion and science were always in conflict, while 15 percent said the two were never in conflict. The majority, 70 percent, said religion and science are only sometimes in conflict. (Jaweed Kaleem, the Huffington Post)

Although the bible is supposedly, the word of God by believers who profess the teachings of the bible can explain all truth. However, the discoveries of scientific findings can very much correspond to the biblical theories of clergy and prophets of religion.

e.g., the bible tells us about the flood and Noah’s ark many scientist claim the world was flooded at the beginning of time which is responsible for our oceans and all bodies of water throughout the world.

Young Earth creationism

( YEC) is a form of creationism that asserts the Heavens, Earth, and all life on Earth was created by direct acts of the Abrahamic God during a relatively short period, sometime between 5,700 and 10,000 years ago.

Its adherents are Christians and Jews who believe that God created the Earth in six 24-hour days, taking a literal interpretation of the Genesis creation narrative as a basis for their beliefs.

The scientific consensus , supported by a 2006 statement by 68 national and international scientific academies , is that it is evidence-based fact derived from observations and experiments in multiple scientific disciplines that the universe has existed for around 13 billion years, that the Earth was formed about 4.5 billion years ago with life appearing at least 2.5 billion years ago.

Although many young Earth creationists (YECs) are active in the development of creation science, an endeavor that holds that the events associated with supernatural creation can be evidenced and modeled through an interpretation of the scientific method, creation science has been judged unscientific in both conception and methodology

Between 40-50% of adults in the United States say, they believe in young Earth creationism, depending on the poll. According to a Gallup poll in December 2010, around 40% of Americans believe in YEC, with 52% among Republicans and 34% among Democrats. The percentage falls quickly as the level of education increases—only 22% of respondents with postgraduate degrees believed compared with 47% of those with a high school education or less.

There are numerous theories of how life began: from electronic particles in the ocean to Darwin’s theory of evolution. We as the human race will keep searching for the truth no mater how long it takes or how many different theories we explore it is in our nature to find an explanation of life no matter where the road leads us.

I encounter too much, "the bible is the never failing word of God," from some people. As a Friend I have a different opinion of it, as do most Quakers. Of course the earth is about 4.56 billion years old. Of course creation is an on-going process. We too often confuse the material with the spiritual. Most scientists have room in their theories for the Spirit.

Thank you for commenting Jack, yes I believe science can work right along with biblical teachings. Although they differ a great deal with their philosophies we can come to terms if we give it a try.

Very interesting article.

It reminds me of the theory which came first, the chicken or the egg!

There are so many things that happen which science can not explain and having the comfort of faith makes some of these explainations easier to live with.

Although we all want to try and analyze why changes occur, sometimes we just have to take a leap of faith... I do believe that we also have to be sensitive to nature and what she is trying to tell us by preserving the beauty of our earths resources and not question how or where things came about but not feel that we have the right to destroy what nature has given us to enjoy.

What can we possibly comprehend God with? Our intellect? Tricky, its part of creation. Our belief, what is that, or our hope? In truth it does not need so much intellect to understand that that which created our intellect might be smarter than we can ever hope to be.
