Use a little Common Sense in our Dealings with Others

Common sense is the knack of seeing things as they are, and doing things as they ought to be done.” Harriet Beecher Stowe

Yes the so-called realist in this country keep telling us to face reality, accept life for what it is, and move on from what is prevalent in our lives.

However, when we see things for what they are and do not agree with their stature in our lives, our only stance is to change what we see to what it should be.

We as Americans have come along way on our journey through this life. However it has always been reality i.e., things as they are we were to live our lives accordingly with the rules and laws set down by our founding fathers.

I am not saying our constitution our founding fathers created for us is wrong and unjust only it is time for a change in the way we relate to our fellow man.

We needed tough rules and laws to live by in the past for us as a people were an aggressive being in the days of yesterday. Today we have evolved from an aggressive creature to a more refined individual.

Therefore, we must adapt to society, as we know it to be in today’s world. For living with one another as a more civilized people should be our goal in life.

“The circumstances of the world are continually changing, and the opinions of men change also; and as government is for the living, and not for the dead, it is the living only that has any right in it. That which may be thought right and found convenient in one age, may be thought wrong and found inconvenient in another. In such cases, who is to decide, the living, or the dead?” Thomas Paine

Common Sense by Thomas Paine

Published in 1776, Common Sense challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy. The plain language that Paine used spoke to the common people of America and was the first work to openly ask for independence from Great Britain.

Unfortunately, most people will "follow the rules" by their own interpretation of what those rules are!

We see this every day and my rule of thumb is a simple one, I treat others the way I want to be treated, and try to teach my grandchildren that following your heart rather than following another individual will make them strong and independent! If you know in your heart that an action will harm you or others, than take a step back and don't do it! Too bad most individuals don't see it that way and we have become a nation of do what is good for me!

Good Article!

This is a tough call. Thing is, you are civilized as are countless others. There is a big however though. Many countless others are far less civilized or law abiding as we are (I include myself and all the people I associate with as civilized too). All the laws in the world are not going to bind them to anything - that is the fundamental difference. We only have to get into our cars, drive down a major interstate to see exactly what I mean. There you will see law abiding, civility, courtesy as well as law breaking, tail gating, rudeness. I have seen recklessness and law breaking on the increase, not the other way. I dare say, this might also be true of our civilization. One need only view the protests, the unruly demonstrations and so on. Ideally, I agree with everything you say. But -
