What do I believe? As an American, I believe in generosity, in liberty, in the rights of man. These are social and political faiths that are part of me, as they are, I suppose, part of all of us. Such beliefs are easy to express. But part of me too is my relation to all life, my religion. And this is not so easy to talk about. Religious experience is highly intimate and, for me, ready words are not at hand.” Adlai Stevenson Speech, Libertyville, Illinois, May 21, 1954

Our constitution allows us the pursuit of happiness some of us find it easy to obtain happiness. For the simple pleasures of life can lead us to pleasurable moments in our lives as we live from day to day and these moments can lead us to happiness.

However, we have had hard times in our country such as the great depression and two world wars. Although we have been dealt, hard times, we have always managed to get back on our feet after suffering tragedies in our times.

We have a lot to be proud of here in America; just looking back at our history gives us a great deal to be proud of. For the great men and women who endured the hardships through life we owe our existence to.

Yes, the rights of our fellow man are important in life for we must not condemn our neighbor for his or her beliefs although they may differ from ours. Religion on the other hand can also lead us down an improper path. For our religious beliefs may also be a hindrance on our lives. We must come to a mutual understanding with our neighbor on our beliefs in God.

I hope to see the day in my lifetime when all of humanity comes together in peace and love. A new day without war, famine and pestilence this day is only a heartbeat away we can make this new day a reality if we give it a chance.

Our politicians whom are supposedly working for our welfare must open their hearts and work for this new day in the lives of all of humanity.

Let freedom ring its new chime of freedom of our souls ignited by our Lord to serve one another in peace and love.

“I believe that the entire effort of modern society should be concentrated on the endeavor to outlaw war as a method of the solution of problems between nations.”  Douglas MacArthur

Hi Dave,

Excellent article.

I don't believe however we will have strive to your hopes as in mine to be a nation or for that matter a world who will ever come to the understand that we must respect and honor those who practice a different religion than what we believe in.

My family as I have mentioned in several of my articles are a wonderful mix of different religions so the grandchildren are respectful of each other and their beliefs regarding their practicing religion. .

What scares me the most is that everyone and anyone can claim for the good of our country and run for president and bring in their own religious beliefs into the mix when clearly our constitution states freedom of religion and the right to practice it.

Politics and religion do not mix and never will!

I am all for finding a way to help our country heal but not at the expense of worrying about one of our most precious rights, freedom of religion and I don't believe any candidate should shove their beliefs down our throats and try to change the consitition as it stands now.

True Iris, politics and religion don't mix however, I believe as citizens of our country we can come to a mutual understanding about our God no matter what religion we profess.
