Follow Your Dreams (Poem)

by David Tanguay

As we question our existence - here on earth

We are reluctant - to hear reasons for our birth

Told to give praise - to our parents - for our life

Conceived from them - as they became man and wife

We are nurtured with a belief - in a God up above

For we are told from him - came everlasting love

Why do we question - life as we know it?

With all of life’s faults,- we simply want to quit

We were never promised - a life without its faults

For we are met daily - with various assaults

Dream on dream on - life is made of dreams

To follow your heart is the way - it seems

Never give in - to life’s treacherous ways

For there is an answer - as we live through the days

Our fathers laid down - a foundation for us to live by

The constitution was granted to us - we must not defy

God bless America - the land of the free

Free to live our lives - from sea to shining sea

Beautiful piece, David. Your work really highlights the shame in not living life to its fullest.
