I’m Busy Don’t Bother Me

The world is moving so fast these days that the one who says it can't be done is generally interrupted by someone doing it.” Harry Emerson Fosdick

How true this quote by Harry Emerson Fosdick is, during my lifetime I have seen many unbelievable inventions making the scene and coming into existence. I remember in the 50’s when the Polaroid camera came out this was quite a marvel in those days.

Television was another invention that was quite unbelievable in those days. No one would believe televisions would become a commodity in every household.

Computers were only science fiction back then; today they are also a must in every household. Yes, the world is moving at a very fast past today we never know what will come next.

From automobiles with their many modern features to airliners to zoom us across the country in a mater of a few hours, soon we may be traveling in space visiting space stations and probably planets. Hey don’t laugh we laughed at the thought of horseless carriages in the past.

I don’t know if it’s just in our nature but it seems like it takes an endless amount of time to reach 21 years of age. However, after hitting that time in our lives, life just rushes by us. Keeping busy takes a toll on our lives. However, human nature in a sense has an unexplainable phenomena directed to our lives.

Look at how far we’ve come in the past 100 years it’s unbelievable the progress we have made as the human species. Who knows what another 100 years will bring I dare not imagine.

I do believe in God and I believe we will truly be free when we die and face our Lord in heaven. In the mean time, we must go along with the flow and do the best we can here on planet earth.

“It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: what are we busy about?” Henry David Thoreau

Hi Dave,

Yes we have come a long way but let's not forget that with all the advanced technology we have also somehow forgot about good old fashioned human contact, face to face. With internet service, facebook and all the other internet sites, have we become a society of corresponding and not relating on a one to one, face to face conversation? While I think modern technology is wonderful, I also think that we rely far too much on it and have lost the art of being with one another in person and having a conversation face to face. What kind of example are we setting for the future generation if they loose the art of communication on a more personal level if they can't rely on computers, cell phones and any other means of advanced communication? Will they be able to handle going back to the way things were, before we discovered, phones of all kinds, TV, computers, and video games?

Food for thought, don't you think?

Dave: Iris makes some great observations, as do you in your article. Sometimes we do tend to think that outstanding technological change makes our development hurtle along at the same break neck speed. However, there is very little in our conduct or outlook that says that we are that much more developed than we were thousands of years ago. Technology makes us feel more civilized, but we still have the same impulses working in us. I agree with you, "we must go with the flow and do the best we can here on planet Earth."

Nice article sir!

To your surprise in India we still have horseless carts, which are called as RICKSHAW pulled by humans. Pretty similar look with the given picture in your article, though we have got all modern vehicles too.

Good read Dave. Slowing the pace seems so hard to do at times, but remains an necessity if we want peace and mind.

Thank you David for sharing this. The part you wrote "takes an endless amount of time to reach 21 years of age. However, after hitting that time in our lives, life just rushes by us." How true, I remember when I reached 21 - the next week I was near on 40, well thats how it felt for me.

Keep well

Kacy
