Opportunity Knocks For Those Who Heed the Call

by David Tanguay

Opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Thomas Alva Edison

An opportunity to succeed in our chosen field requires hard work and persistence for success comes to those who put their heart and soul into their work. For it is not enough to punch in and out doing only what is required to fulfill a day’s work.

To take an interest in our work and to work diligently at our chosen field can and will bring about success. Providing we work with a positive attitude and tackle the obstacles, we encounter as we toil throughout the day.

We must not be afraid of hard work for success comes from the sweat of our brow. Not all great men and women of yesterday as well as today achieved greatness by merely working from nine to five and putting their time in only doing the required work called for by their job and nothing more.

Hard work begets success as we walk through our cities of skyscrapers and paved sidewalks let us reflect for a moment on the hard work involved in bringing our material world into existence. All of the wonders around us came from someone’s ingenuity.

There are still many opportunities out there in the real world for those whom are no afraid to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Age does not have that much bearing on our success. Colonel Sanders (of Kentucky fried chicken) was in his 60s when he made his first million.

Opportunity and success does not entirely mean financial gain for we can be successful in our profession and live on a modest income. Some of our geniuses although they may find new discoveries and unravel the mysteries of life, live humbly.

To like what you’re doing is the secret to success for if we like what we’re doing we don’t look at our work as a burden but rather as a fulfillment of our lives.

“I never worked a day in my life it was all fun” Thomas Edison

“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” Albert Einstein

Absolutely right your point of view, David. 95% of people do not really enjoy their work except 5% do. How lucky if we belong to the 5%.

I enjoyed the article; it confirms the fact that success comes through hard work and dedication. However, being successful does not equate being financially rich. A very nice food for thought.

I have to agree, A person must enjoy what they are doing in life to make the most of life. The same goes for their employment. A person who enjoys their job will usually be successful in their job.

Hi David.

As usual, I love your quotes. You always find just the right ones. I've often said that I will never be really successful (read that wealthy) at anything because I'm just not motivated to work that hard! Of course, at the root of that is satisfaction with what I currently have. But I am constantly "working" to improve me. I've no end of enthusiasm for that. :)

Great article as usual!

Hugs,

Dianne

This is a very uplifting and true article. As someone who just recently took a gigantic leap of faith by quitting my 9-5 that was causing so much stress in my life that it was literally killing me, I can definitely relate to this article. I started my own internet retail business and, although it has yet to make me a dime, the happiness that has come into my life from the lack of stress is truly fulfilling. I am a hard worker and have put all of my heart and soul into my new job but it just takes some time sometimes. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with this younger generation who very much needs to hear it.

Great article David, I couldn't agree more. When you're willing to get out and work, you can achieve anything.
