" A politician thinks of the next election. A statesman, of the next generation" James Freeman Clarke
There is a major difference between a politician and a statesman, for a politician is mainly concerned about winning an election to a political party while a statesman finds it a very difficult task in serving the people.
Most politicians have very little moral fiber they will actually lie to keep a position they hold, while a statesman is concerned about where we are going and how to get there safely. Our journey here on earth is an endless pursuit to find a meaning in our lives during our travels through time.
Carefully written with the rights of the people at stake was our constitution. For the people are the backbone of a nation without the ordinary citizens to uphold the very fabric of our society we would be lost as a nation.
Yes, our founding fathers worked very diligently to bring us as a people a more perfect way of life. They saw to it that we as a united people had all the freedoms entitled to us by our laws. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the framers of the constitution.

In today's world every election year, we as the people are bombarded with commercials on television, radio, newspapers and magazines sponsored by those who want to get a certain political figure in office. Money of course plays a very important role in getting a man or woman in office. The more money a candidate has the better his/her chances are at winning a seat in the political arena.
Before we vote for a certain candidate we must first look closely at their credentials and ask. Are they 1) a politician or 2) a statesman? There is a difference for a mere politician is not as ethically equipped as a statesman.

David it’s time to start creating an online education for political candidates, with a kind of multiple choice questionnaire to find out for them, whether they are truly a Statesman or more a Politician before they run for election. Please log in to respond to this comment.Sounds like a good idea Walter, thanks for commenting. Please log in to respond to this comment.
Your distinction between a politician or a statesman explained well. In India, we have little choice to vote for a statesman ,as mojority people who contest election are politician. We still have one more class- corrupt politician and who in some cases, face criminal chrages. I feel sad when the show held by political democracy worldwide. Please log in to respond to this comment.Thank you for commenting GauravPlease log in to respond to this comment.
Dave I think you would have far more statesmen, were it not that a majority of those that vote in elections were less than statesman like. The majority of voters vote more in their own self interests as opposed to the interest of the overall good of the country. There would be more statesman like voters were it not for the fact that they had been betrayed over and over again by those they thought would be compassionate leaders, yet once elected fell prey to the interests of big money, and lost interest in voting because it had been consistently demonstrated that it didn't really matter anymore, that the results were the same. I agree with you David that we are bombarded with commercials from all avenues pushing political figures. I too hope we the people will put forth the effort to educate ourselves about the people we are voting into office, so that perhaps one day the nations capital and the lawmakers will be aiming for what is best for the country and its people.I'm glad you keep shouting the message.Linda DPlease log in to respond to this comment.Thank you for commenting LindaPlease log in to respond to this comment.
