Thanksgiving Day is around the Corner (Poem)

Thanksgiving Day is approaching soon

Let us all sing out - a happy tune

As our ancestors made a landing - on that day

The native Indians - gave us the right of way

A celebration for a successful journey to rejoice

Came the sounds of laughter - from their voice

The Mayflower docked on Plymouth Rock

To open her doors - we did knock

To create a new and freer day - for one and all

We were like a child - just beginning to crawl

A lot has happened - in the past two hundred years

We've explored her - beginning with opening her frontiers

We have treated her - as a nation - with cruelty and respect

As we took advantage of her - we often did neglect

Just what freedom is - I still don't understand

However these words are spread - throughout her land

As a nation we are still young - and have a lot to learn

So walk lightly and speak softly - to show we are concerned

Thanksgiving has always associated with family and family hood. How sad it is that nowadays the family values have been devalued. Family traditions are no more. Where is this old dying world heading to? How sad things are nowadays!

Well, we in Canada celebrated Thanksgiving on October 11 (it has a different history than USA Thanksgiving), but Happy Thanksgiving anyway.

Interesting poem David. I never would have endured what our founding fathers would have endured. I hope we can get back to a day of giving thanks. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

What a beautiful poem, David, I love your last line. I'm not sure any of us really understand what freedom is...
