Democracy at Work Here in the U.S.

" Democracy is itself, a religious faith. For some it comes close to being the only formal religion they have." E. B. White
What our Lord spoke, the words he used during his reign of power in his ministry such as "love they neighbor as thyself." his teachings have found their way into our political system.
The phrase was quoted by the United States Supreme Court first in 1878, and then in a series of cases starting in 1947. This led to increased popular and political discussion of the concept.
Living by the word of God (or biblical teachings) is not relevant in our way of life. Our political system with its two major political party's democrats and republicans are the parties we choose to identify ourselves with as a people.
Some look at our political structure as good and evil working side by side. Those of you reading these words may misconstrue the example I give of democrats as being God's children and republicans as the devil's children; however, this conception was quite prevailing back in the early 70's.

When President Nixon was in power, he knew he was as a republican one of the devil's children. I know what I say here will have many of my readers questioning or even labeling me as some kind of nut for writing this article. I could have shuffled my wording around to maneuver with skill and tack to make this article come out with a reasonable and logical format that everyone would understand.
However, I will write from the heart and say what I believe and my readers can take it for what they may. I am open to criticism or other's viewpoints on my beliefs. In today's world, democracy is a lot easier to live by with the devil out of the way. (The fire is out in hell)
For we are truly united as a people today more than we were four decades ago when we were living quite aggressively and alienated as a people throughout the land we call America.

Hi David. How are you? I appreciate your passion and ability to express yourself so clearly. But I must say, Jefferson's words have been sorely mis-quoted and taken out of context. Here is a portion of his letter back to the Baptist church:"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State"In context, he was saying our government was not going to impose a specific religious requirement on its people, nor would it oppose the freedom of worship, for to do so it would create a wall of separation between church and state. He did not want division in our country, and his whole intent was that the church and state could work together. All one need to do is go back and study the original documents and words from our founding fathers, not what the history books tell us today, for they have been changed. That is evident. Our constitution and rights were based on the religious and moral convictions of our founding fathers. The point is, take morality and absolutes out of people and you get corrupt people. Democrat or Republican or otherwise, it is the heart of man that is the problem. But for goodness sake. Let's quit blaming one party or the other.Get rid of Greed, lying, and selfishness, and we can get back to the great nation we once were.Again, thanks for sharing. Peace and many blessings to you! Even though you think I am a child of the devil, I still love you :-)Please log in to respond to this comment.Thank you for commenting Teresa, I don't think you're a child of the devil, I believe today we are all God's children regardless of religion or nationality. Please log in to respond to this comment.Hi David, so I should not have taken your comment in your article so literally? :-)Please log in to respond to this comment.
Great post, David. So many have forgotten that the founders of our Country came here to escape state-sponsored religion, which is the reason for the existence of the 1st Amendment and this Separation of Church and State. My ancestors came to America after the men in the family were boiled in oil by the state sponsored church, so I'm well-aware of the dangers of mixing religion with politics.Keep up the great writing. Please log in to respond to this comment.Thank you for commenting BrucePlease log in to respond to this comment.
