I Feel Glad When You’re Glad

" The greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being." Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lamat

I have five brothers and two sisters my two sisters and three of my brothers live in Maine. I have two brothers who live here in Florida with me. One of my brothers lives with his wife (children all grown) and one brother who lives right next door to me.

My brother who lives next door to me is very close to me. i.e. when he has the blues, I too have the blues when he is happy I too am happy.

This feeling of mine is also true with other people I seem to feel and sense their feelings. The Lord works in mysterious ways through him we find our way into our brother's hearts and souls. To feel the pain others feel not only feel but distinguish the source of their pain.

However, living day by day we all share the same experiences with one another. We can see through the hold society has on us as individuals. We can relate to the behavior of those we feel for through these experiences we encounter everyday.

One of Barry Manilow's songs titled "cant smile without you" has these lyrics, (" I feel glad when you're glad feel sad when you're sad"a)

Yes, the power of love carries a great deal of heartache and discontentment. When we see that, our society needs drastic changes to accommodate the needs of its citizens. We are definitely not alone in the world for there are many third world countries that need help more than we as Americans need it.

I spent time on a mental ward back in the early 70s. When a patient would react with an outburst of emotion I could feel their frustration I knew down in my soul there actions were feelings of hostility towards the establishment.

The Lord is watching over us he too feels the pain we are going through. For that is one of the reasons he died on the cross, he died so that we could live a better life.

While we are here on earth, it is our duty and responsibility to lift up those who fall during the course of a day. No matter what color, race, or creed the Lord's love is within us all.

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy" Francis of Assisi

Yes, to learn to love ourselves, goes a long way in being able to feel the glee or pain of others. It is feelings of superiority or inferiority that seem to cloud this ability. To learn to love others, as ourselves, is a truly eye opening experience, and one that I strive for on a daily basis. Great article.

I think we do all share the same experiences, even if we don't speak the same languages or come from the same cultures. Great article, David, thanks.

God surely is watching us and what is more, he is making everything possible, from wind touching the trees to us being able to see the butterflies fly, when we feel happiness we should let God feel happiness with us and when we feel sadness we should overcome the sadness with God again.

Nice article David, as always.
