Think For Yourself and Feel For Yourself

" Few is the number who think with their own minds and feel with their own hearts" Albert Einstein

How many of us think with our own minds and feel with our own hearts? The information we acquired all of our lives come from different sources most of us do not challenge the validity of what we learn but rather accept it for being the truth.

We conform to established beliefs and traditions we never bother to ask why or how we just accept it as a part of reality. In all actuality we do not have, a mind of our own we let others lay down the foundation of what is considered to be right and wrong

Diagnosed with a mentally challenged state of mind are those who question our way of life.

The world is far from being perfect we need to do so much to heal our sick planet we call our home. Sometimes while I'm watching TV commercials, it appears as if the world is, ending and these characters making the advertisements are trying to get as much as they can from it before it ends.

We as Americans have learned to live by our constitution it has served us well through the history of our nation. However, as times change so do we as a people change we need not a written law to live by for living by our natural instincts and following our own calling is when we can say we are truly free.

"The circumstances of the world are continually changing, and the opinions of men change also; and as government is for the living, and not for the dead, it is the living only that has any right in it. That which may be thought right and found convenient in one age, may be thought wrong and found inconvenient in another. In such cases, who is to decide, the living, or the dead?" Thomas Paine

Yes by living by our natural instincts we naturally know right from wrong we do not need laws to abide by. One might say without laws most people would become criminals and society would not be a safe place to live. However if living in society where we the people wouldn't have rules and laws to live by and everyone was treated fairly there wouldn't be a need for criminal behavior we would live in a more civilized society.

I know many reading this article will say I am very idealistic and very unrealistic for making such accusations. However, what do we define as being real and unreal? By following the call of our own hearts and minds, we can see reality from a different point of view.

I certainly do not advocate any sort of violence to reach these goals only to open our eyes to a completely new horizon.

These are my own thoughts although anarchists have similar thoughts and ideas wikipedia encyclopedia provides this page for the philosophy and beliefs of anarchism

Interesting point of view. I, however, like to look in the positive side of things. There is more thatn enough negativity in this woirl. I do not think I will add to it.

Mr. Tanguay, never have I heard truer words spoken, or written. Particularly from someone that has your deep theological beliefs, which appear to require a strict social construct.

A lot of the reason people conform to social standards, whether good for society, or not, is explained in Mr. Lewis article, "Psychology of the Stigma".

This is one of the most honest articles, that I have ever had the privilege of reading!

Thank you

Yes Ella, a Utopian way of life is far from becoming a reality. I don't believe we will ever reach perfection but things have got to get better, don't you think.

hi david,

i also think that for most of us, if we followed what is in our heart,  would need no rules-we'd already be living by them.

thanks for a good article,

You wrote: "We conform to established beliefs and traditions we never bother to ask why or how we just accept it as a part of reality."

And then we take these borrowed beliefs and reinforce them by rejecting anything or anybody that disagrees with them, and then we only associate with people who agree with us. Then we take sides and fight against those who oppose us. Then we go to war.

It's all so stupid and predictable.

While I exercise my opinion to agree to disagree, those are indeed thought provoking words you wrote down David. I believe that there is a level of conformity in this country, as to a dangerous degree you state is where I differ. We as a people will always look to our peers to gain acceptance and some will see this as an annoyance, this is where conformity is cascaded from a linear path.

If we look at history we all know that people have always tried to dominate others and make them submit to their will, however there is always a point to where it is too much for us and we shall strike back with great force and furious anger against our oppressors.

I feel that is what our founding fathers always relied on to make America what they hoped it would be and if old men from another time can achieve this then it is only a matter of time David that conformity is once again cascaded into the abyss to resurface at another worm hole in time.
