The Right Way

" The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character." Margaret Chase Smith
Doing what we believe is right is the only way we should govern our lives. For sometimes what we believe to be right and just can be unpopular to those who control our country and to the people in general.
Only what about the poor and the beaten down living in the hopeless hungry side of town they are victims of the times we live in. Oh sure we may provide them with soup kitchens and shelters to live in but what about their pride and dignity.
Many of these homeless are not afraid to work life has dealt them a bad hand they are a reminder of what we as Americans stand for. Compensated with a pension until they stand on firm ground would only be fair so they may also live with respect within our society.
"Compassion is not weakness, and concern for the unfortunate is not socialism." Hubert H. Humphrey
Our country is in very poor shape today we are billions of dollars in depth. We also have the oil spill in the gulf to deal with we are engaged in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, before we send a man or woman to mars, we should see to it that our own people here on earth are taken care of first.
Before my critiques begin calling me a commie or an unrealistic person not being in touch with reality I say to them take a look around you and see for yourself, which one of us is, escaping reality.

hi david, the one thing that i do not understand, is that we have people sleeping on the streets, under tunnels, in shelters, in institutions, being drugged so they don't cause any trouble, and yet, when we turn on the tv, there are commercials asking for donations for all other countries.i have no disagreement with helping others, however, i do think we should take care of our own first.clean up our strreets and our shelters and our tunnels and our diseases, and then, focus on others.thank you for a good article,my best, susanPlease log in to respond to this comment.Very well said Susan, I agree with you 100%Please log in to respond to this comment.

Your opening statement about doing what is right captured me, David. I believe your statement is correct. The problem arises in people's opinions of what is right. Very good article! Please log in to respond to this comment. If I may interject this thought? Right is not an opinion but is fact. If one cannot speak to reality, truth, fact then they should not speak. Sadly in this age they even teach relative thinking, is black really black and who says so. Thats why ones deeds are the critical element. They speak to who someone really is not what we want to perceive by eloquent speech, looks, wealth, fame. . Best wishes. Please log in to respond to this comment.Thank you for commenting LorriePlease log in to respond to this comment.
David another pointed and good article. Yet, in this day and age can we not recognize that anyone who even tries to point out fact, truth, reality is shunned, labeled, discarded. It is the new reality of today and in my opinion that is at the core of all the corruption, lack of responsibility, take it and whats in it for me attitudes. Speak up and you can bet you will be out. Vladimir Q. Kookaburra is very astute, although I wasn't speaking specifically of oil per say but when one thinks about it almost everything that is produced, marketed, sold in this world involves oil. To think we can suddenly turn a switch and go green and get away from oil is well somewhat naive. Yes and we are enslaved, perhaps not badly in every case but overall and not to forget that is if we are not caught up in delusion's by those needs, wants, necessities oil produces. Trillions involved and not so easy to ween off of. Yes just one aspect of slavery Vladimir caught, although credit card debts, bad laws, and similar keep a great majority in bondage and servitude. Best wishes to him! Please log in to respond to this comment.
Nicely done. Unfortunately, there have been the down-trodden (and those less-fortunate, who of course are always taken advantage of) and the poor and pitiful. And yet, it would seem impossible in this day and age, right? And here we have the same problems. Is it something as simple as television, or perhaps the economies of the world? Or is it just the human condition, that there will always be those without (just as there will always be those with). Regardless, it is a sad situation and as I look around I see nothing on any horizon that can change it.Very timely article, sir. Please log in to respond to this comment.Yes Mike, it seems all countries have their ghettos, slums and what have you. But it seems we could help them to get back on their feet. I don't mean giving them a free ride just show them a better way of living. Please log in to respond to this comment.
Hi David, I think it is every governments prime concern to ensure basic necessities and a dignified life to the people. it may score high on lot many works but i believe if there are still starving , homeless people, it's not doing enough.Sometimes i have this crazy thought (i know it is impractical but not impossible...the complicated stuff is called taxes) in my head, there are over a billion people in india, my country, if they collected a rupee each from every person each day and in all due honesty purchased food and distributed, no one would sleep hungry...Alas, the will and the machinery is missing i guess. In hopeAbhyPlease log in to respond to this comment.Thank you for commenting Abhy, yes to the common people it seems a solution is possible and very simple. Please log in to respond to this comment.
