"Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe." Abraham Lincoln
Education is important in our time however, we must also learn from life. For a solid foundation in which to stand on is a necessity, in which we build our future on.
If we only learn what our educational curriculum has to offer, we are missing the root source of all knowledge. From all knowledge came the pioneers who laid down the building blocks for us to work from.
What we learn in the school of life far exceeds what we learn in the classroom. Little Jimmy Dickens had a hit song back in1962 titled " Out behind the barn" the opening lyrics are as follows " I got my education behind the barn"
Although our education is vital in this day in age, we must not forget what we learned in life. For human behavior is all related to our nurturing the way we look at life i.e. our philosophy of life in general must have a sound basis to thrive.
If we take time out from our busy and hectic lifestyle to try to make sense of it all this will give us more incentive to face the real world. When life deals you a hard blow it's easier to confront our foe with a clear understanding of how to react with the situation.
We must prepare ourselves for the challenges we face everyday. By doing this, we must face the realities that confront us on a daily basis. Reality as we know it can control our lives if we are not strong enough to face it head on. What we learn about human behavior will help us through this ordeal.

You can only learn so much in school. Real life experiences weighs heavy but you need education to get your foot in the door. I don't know all the state capitals and proofs like I learned in geometry but without passing my classes I wouldn't be where I am today. Great article! Please log in to respond to this comment.Yes Dave a school education is important, but to get to the root of any problem requires an education in life experiences. Please log in to respond to this comment.Agreed. Well done. Education cannot be understated, yet it should certainly not be overstated. Life experiences and those day-to-day choices are who we really are. Also, when I saw the title for some reason I thought of 'Ol Yeller'. I know, strange I am.Please log in to respond to this comment. Thanks for commenting Mike, I don't know why my title reminded you of Ol Yeller. That was a good movie thoughPlease log in to respond to this comment.
Thanks David, another great article. "Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe." Abraham Lincoln. What a great quote! In Buddhism we say a very similar thing; "One-pointed, Samadhi meditation sharpens the knife, but a sharp knife is useless unless it cuts through with pure awareness and wisdom; Vipassana meditation - you need both, like steps in walking.

That's one clever title David. I have to say I agree with Paul, and I'd much rather be wise and loving than rich and famous.Good article! Please log in to respond to this comment.Thank you for commenting Brianna, I got the title from an old Jimmy Dickens song. Please log in to respond to this comment.
