Just Be Yourself

"If you want things to be different, perhaps the answer is to become different yourself." Norman Vincent Peal
How many times have we said, "I wish things would change in society" by things we mean perhaps the economy, politics, the business community or whatever involves our everyday way of living.
What about we as human beings what if we would or could change ourselves? i.e. to be less or more ambitious, greedy, careful, or all of our psychological phenomena that make us as human beings unique and stand out from the crowd in society as we live and go about our daily routine.
However, we are born with our own individuality there is a specific quality within everyone of us that separates us from one another.
Conformity is a powerful force that we all do battle with everyday. For it hurts to be different from others if we are by nature different in our characters it seems easier to follow the crowd than to be opposed to it.
One of Popeye the sailor man's old saying went like this: "I am what I am and that's all what I am I'm Popeye the sailor man"
Yes sometimes it hurts to be ourselves for we may think of ourselves as inferior to others however it just may be we are on a higher scale than others (by a hierarchy of living) by not being like them. Just because some people may behave in a manner that may make them popular to others does not mean they are more important as human beings than we are.
If we develop a way of living that suits us then perhaps we can arrange the atmosphere that we encompass from our living conditions to follow suit. e.g. if we present to the world the real "ME" then that particular individual may be more happy with themselves than if we were to be someone we are not.

David,Well said. Being a life / career coach one thing I advize my clients / students is to be yourself, which, as you've stated, is not always so easy. But in doing so, you often may just have to run counter to what's popular. There certainly is a fine line between fitting in and being yourself. Thanks for the article. Please log in to respond to this comment. Thanks for commenting Jeff, yes just being yourself can be hard at times. Please log in to respond to this comment.

Hi David loved the article but you know what I have always loved being me and because of that I will continue to keep being me. Them that don't like it can lump it. Yes sometimes people do change somethings to get what they want like a job, but why. I think if you are liked for who you are then thats a blessing.Keep wellKacyPlease log in to respond to this comment.Very well said kacy, by being yourself is the only way to be happy. Please log in to respond to this comment.
