Free At Last - Free At Last (Poem)

by David Tanguay

He died with a dream still unfulfilled
He left us with words in which to rebuild

I have a dream he preached throughout the land
A call to unite us all as humans to lend a hand

I have seen the other side - this he did proclaim
When all of God's children will be free from shame

When a man's character is judged - not the color of his skin
His or her heart and soul - that screams from within

We are on the verge of his dream coming true
As we walk hand and hand and say thank you

He was still a young man when he was slain
But for many of us - we all felt the pain

Martin Luther King Jr.- was this man's name
For all of us he died - and took the blame

Let us never forget the sacrifice he made
He freed many of us black and whites - all paid

As he lay to rest these words inscribed on his tombstone
FREE AT LAST - FREE AT LAST - THANK GOD ALMIGHTY
I'M FREE AT LAST
