A Change Which is Possible

The beginning of a New Year I don't believe in New Year resolutions however I do intend to make some improvements in my lifestyle. For one thing, I will look back at the mistakes I've made through the years and learn from them.

One of Elvis's big hits "Are You Lonesome Tonight" has lyrics that go like this, "The world a stage and each must play a part."

Yes, we are all actors on a stage, the stage being our planet Earth. Playing the game of life can be rewarding to us and to some the roles they play are downright miserable. However, we must find our own script to follow.

We mustn't put blame for our failures on the institution in which we reside. For we are all inhabitants of the same world no other country in the world allows their citizens the freedoms we as Americans have. If we play by the rules, we can achieve the goals we set out to accomplish.

Is there a better way of life than the one we have always known and have come to call reality? Of course there is nothing has to change "only the people" when I say the people I am not referring to the ordinary citizens of our land I am referring to those in powerful positions.

Our politicians have little power to change what needs to be changed. The wealthy must show some responsibility on their part. Yes, the wealthy are the ones who are in actual control of our way of life.

Very few of the wealthy have actually worked or obtained their wealth through their own merit. Most of them were born into the class they establish themselves into.

Of course, many of the wealthy give to charities and believe in their heart they are doing their part by donating to various causes. Actually, there are no laws that limit one's ambition or drive to accumulate great wealth.

However, the drive within us that has been responsible for many of the wealthy to become rich and powerful just isn't there anymore.

A new wealth resides in us that wealth is love and understanding. If we possess love for our fellow man then we have the greatest wealth of all. Of course, when I use the words "new wealth" I am referring to a compassion, which did not reside openly in previous generations. It was mainly hidden inside of us from those whom lived with it.

Of course, love and compassion has always been with us as humans for we could not survive without them. However, in today's world it is more evenly distributed among all of us. i.e. every one of us are born and reared with love and compassion as a reality.

I personally am living quite comfortably on a government pension. I do not consider myself rich however, I can get by I am financially able to pay my bills and buy food and clothing the mere necessities of life I am not deprived of.

If our poor in not only this "our country" but throughout the world could live as well as I live then we would have far less crime on our streets and less chaos throughout the world. Why don't the rich and powerful make this kind of reality a reality?

Great article David. I just wrote one myself along the same lines titled: "Don’t Count On the Safety Net Called America." I'll put it up some time in the near future, but will email it to you in the meantime.

Best.............e

hi david,

i think this was a good article, and very true.

i've often wondered why the President doesn't have a meeting with all the billionaires, who will never spend all their money, and see if they'd make a contribution for a better life for everybody. if oprah and bill gates and donald trump and martha stewart, to name the only ones i know, contributed to our society, maybe we could wipe out homelesness.

thanks for sharing,

my best,

sue

Hi David. After reading your article, I can truthfully say that I have a wealth of compassion. Financially, I don't have much but compassion I have plenty of. Thank you for this beautiful article. Best to you and yours, ~Nenita~

Thank you for commenting Ninita, yes those with the most compassion in the world are those whom lack the education to know the meaning of the word...... "Happy New Year"

Very well done, yet remember our politicians really can change things. The key is to wean them away from the lobbyists and special interests (and, of course, those with the money!). The rich can obviously do more, yet so can the poor. Your article touches on this well, and if all of us remember the Golden Rule and act accordingly, this would indeed be a better world.

Thanks for commenting Mike, the golden rule in this country has always been "do unto others before they do unto you" but times have changed and I believe a better society is possible if we all give our fair share. "Happy New Year"
