Uniting Americans Is the First Step to Uniting the World

Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide u
pon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Here in the 21st. Century we must identify ourselves with all the people. We mustn't put ourselves in different categories although we are all different as individuals we are also all identical as human beings.

Yes finding a mutual understanding amongst ourselves is the first step we can take. We all have dreams, ambitions, wants and needs in our lives however if we work together we can reach all of our goals more easily than if we try to reach them alone.

We have great ideas coming from great people but to put these ideas into motion and bring them into reality is the trick. It is far easier to imagine a scenario where people all live in harmony with one another, than to actually bring this kind of life into being.

Therefore, what do we do under our present way of life? Wait for a miracle to happen I don't believe so I believe in what John Kennedy once said [quote] "here on earth God's work must truly be our own"

If we want a better world, we will have to bring it into actuality ourselves. So then, where do we begin? For one thing, as we go about our daily routine i.e. earning a living (providing we have a job) we, all retire to our homes after our day is through (providing we have a home)

We turn on the TV and right away, we are in touch with a world that does not exist. Fictional movies are supposedly entertaining us; some movies are portraying our lifestyle here in the US.  Have you ever been out in the public? Perhaps at an airline terminal or supermarket where people in all lifestyles are all going about their personal lives, here is where reality is evident.

Not on the television screen but rather out in the real world, television could be beneficial in so many useful ways if it was programmed correctly.

Yes, there are comedies to make us laugh however, dramas portraying real life scenarios are phony and only add to all the chaos in society nothing beneficial for children to view.

There is a lot of work to be done out there our infrastructure is in need of vital repairs. If we had a less complicated bureaucracy in Washington, we could solve our problems here on earth. The young are looking for a challenge putting our world back together would be the greatest challenge they could possibly face.

Do away with war we could bring about peace in Afghanistan and Iraq if we tried harder. If diplomacy were used properly, we could end all wars here on earth.

Constructive education in the fields of labor and commerce can supply the world with all the necessities of life. No more third world countries what are we waiting for? The world is at our command. Putting the world back together is only one of the challenges we face in our country and world.

There is still so much need in the world if we are fortunate enough to live among the happy we must share our good fortune with those who have little. (We vs. I)

"This is the duty of our generation as we enter the twenty-first century -- solidarity with the weak, the persecuted, the lonely, the sick, and those in despair. It is expressed by the desire to give a noble and humanizing meaning to a community in which all members will define themselves not by their own identity but by that of others."  Elie Wiesel

Sharing good fortune is the key, and this is a great article. Many people tend to do as you say; that is, they work, they go home and watch television and don't know the real world as it is. We can all use a few hours at a bus terminal or airport to see humanity at work. Well done.

David, great article and I agree with all the suggestions for making our world  a better world.

The world is at our command. Putting the world back together is only one of the challenges we face in our country and world.

There was a time when the world was at America’s command and uniting America would’ve been a first step towards reuniting the world.  I’m not sure that is the case anymore.  As someone who travels, America’s position as the “world leader” has been steadily declining over the years and at it’s all time low.  Not even the election of President Obama has done much to hault or reverse the trend.

Some of USA's increasing “irrelevance” has to do with the “Simple Life Movement” where being “fortunate” and happiness is no longer about “have-ing” but “be-ing”. May be if Americans traveled a lot more and the tvs showed the “real world”, Americans might realize that the rest of the world is moving in a different direction and the “world leader” no longer has a following to lead unless of course it leads by force/violence.  Ooops! I forgot, that's already happening.

Yes Yangki, America has lost its standing in the world. The television movies portray America as being great and the only way to live. Only there is so much corruption all around us. I wish they would stop brainwashing the minds of the youth. They are our only hope for a better tomorrow. thank you for commenting
