The Birth of a Nation (Poem)

by David Tanguay
George Washington was the first to take command
The first lead
er of this new and exciting land
The first lead
From the hand of Thomas Jefferson came the declaration
Of independence.
This work of art became our means of transcendence
Of independence.
This work of art became our means of transcendence
From the work of so many who sought freedom for all
To the battlefields came the sounds of the cannon ball
To the battlefields came the sounds of the cannon ball
Many died in the beginning for a new life of freedom
Our constitution was written with words of wisdom
Our constitution was written with words of wisdom
Do as you please as long as you respect the rights of
Your neighbor
You may seek an education or choose a life of labor
Your neighbor
You may seek an education or choose a life of labor
As a citizen of this land, we have the right to speak our mind
For we believe in equality and the beliefs of all of mankind
For we believe in equality and the beliefs of all of mankind
As a nation we faced many hard times together
In pleasant - as well as stormy weather

We give thanks to God for our union as a nation
For we rely on him to grant us our salvation
In pleasant - as well as stormy weather

We give thanks to God for our union as a nation
For we rely on him to grant us our salvation
The birth of a nation over two hundred years ago
Is still young and active as she continues to grow
Is still young and active as she continues to grow
