Leadership In General

"You do not lead by hitting people over the head - that's assault, not leadership" Dwight D. Eisenhower

To lead others demands an authority on those who lead, for responsibility on the lives of those being led lie on the judgment of their leaders.

In the military during war, leaders of a group of soldiers may give orders that may lead to the death of many soldiers. This is where the burden of responsibility lies however; not only in war but also in the work field there is a great deal of responsibility on those who lead.

Leading requires more than giving orders for one must be knowledgeable in the field in which he or she practices. Experience in a certain field can make a leader far more capable than an inexperienced leader.

Those who take on a leadership position in any field must realize the grave responsibility of such a task for every order given must be dealt with on a personal basis. e.g. the leader must know and understand those in which the order (s) were given and their capability of carrying out the duties of the command. (assignment)

To be able to follow orders can by just as important as giving orders for a good leader must come from the chain of command where orders are given from the top to the bottom. To give orders one must be able to take orders.

Some leaders are thrown into leadership positions by simply taking on the role of a leader without even wanting such a position. e.g. during an emergency where lives are at stake a leader whom naturally has all the answers to the problems that arise will be taken for granted by those whom he directs his orders to.

Our world leaders today must realize the problems we as the human race face today. Leadership does not only require a position in the political arena leaders must solve our problems here on earth. Our world is in bad shape in all aspects of living, we must use less talk and more action if we are to overcome our needs.

Some of us are prepared to lead by nature while others have nothing but an education in the field of leadership. There is an old saying they states " leaders are born" leadership can be learned however the best leadership comes from those who are born to lead.

" In times of change, learners inherit the Earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists." Eric Hoffer

Very well-said, David. I agree. Now if only we could get our leaders to stop 'acting' and start accomplishing!
