Let Your Voice Be Heard

"I always believe that ultimately, if people are paying attention, then we get good government and good leadership. And when we get lazy, as a democracy and civically start taking shortcuts, then it results in bad government and politics." Barack Obama

We are indeed a government of the people we must become active with the task of running the government. We cannot cop out on our responsibility it is rather for us the people to participate in the workings of the government.

We must let our voices be heard for our ideas and our ideals are important it doesn't take a great deal of intellect to solve problems that confront us everyday. Some of our greatest ideas came from ordinary people trying to make things right.

Although we may not have the credentials to speak in the senate or in congress we do have the right to have our voices heard through our representatives. Those we have elected into office to serve us.

A government is only as good as the people it represents. If we choose indifference over compassion and caring then we will be led down the road to despair and apathy. We need not a bureaucracy in Washington to set down a complicated set of rules and laws for us to live by we must take action immediately.

This site may help you get your voice heard in Washington

"Yes, our greatness as a nation has depended on individual initiative, on a belief in the free market. But it has also depended on our sense of mutual regard for each other, of mutual responsibility. The idea that everybody has a stake in the country, that we're all in it together and everybody's got a shot at opportunity. Americans know this. We know that government can't solve all our problems - and we don't want it to. But we also know that there are some things we can't do on our own. We know that there are some things we do better together." Barack Obama

When the primary objective of a politician becomes that of getting re-elected, it doesn't matter what we, the people want, need or think any more. Any actions taken by such politicians (and there are far too many of them) are self serving regardless of how they cloak them in providing for their constituents.
&;
Are not the most "successful" (read re-elected) politicians those that bring home the most Pork to their districts? Now, I ask you, do they do this because it is for the betterment of the country (pulling together, as Obama says) or their own personal goal of garnering votes for the next election?

Well Don, I suppose most politians look at the office they represent as a game more than a service to the people, but we must have some  faith in them anyway. Thanks fr commenting

David, a very patriotic and well-written article. This is honestly the first time I've read it and it reflects the tone of the one I wrote for Independence Day. This is great and I love the quotes you selected.
