The peace and welfare of this and coming generations of Americans will be secure only as we cling to the watchword of true patriotism: "Our country -- when right to be kept right; when wrong to be put right." Carl Schurz
Carl Schurz
Yes, our founding fathers worked very diligently while writing the constitution to insure that the rights of all the people were recognized. "In order to form a more perfect union," this line in our preamble says it all.
After the revolutionary war came the civil war within our nation to free the slaves whom were also human and did require the freedoms instilled in our constitution. To fulfill the creed in our declaration of independence which proclaims that all men are created equal. Slavery was one of the flaws in our way of life, but through men like Abraham Lincoln, we made this injustice right again through war.
World war I, (the war to end all wars) world war II, the Korean war, Vietnam, the first golf war, and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars that were fought and are being fought to this very day, are wars with the goal being "freedom", "democracy", and most importantly "peace"
Instead of doing battle with one another why not try using a little diplomacy we all have one thing in common as a people. i.e. we are all human, here in the 21 st . Century, we must put an end to war or war will put an end to us.
"The real and lasting victories are those of peace, and not of war." Ralph Waldo Emerson
Yes by the words of Carl Schurz above " when right to be kept right; when wrong to be put right."
There are many wrongs yet to be corrected in our own nation if our forefathers were able to create a constitution for a nation to live by why then can we not (leaders of all countries) draft a constitution for the world to live by? Today the world is much smaller than back when we began our new nation. Not smaller geographically but smaller by the way we see it through our vision. It can work in all countries providing we give it a chance.
