A lesson I learned about politics as a child watching TV

"Those who say religion has nothing to do with politics do not know what religion is." Mohandas Gandhi
I don't like it when I hear a politician refer to his/her job as fun and exciting. Oh, I suppose one should like their job no matter what they do. However holding a position in politics where the people are your responsibility it would seem to me a job such as this would be a very difficult and a conscientious burden on an individual's life. As far as being, a fun and exciting job, no not in my book.
In the movie, he portrayed the part of an honest, hard working, real, true blue, down to earth American. I remember in one episode when (I forgot the reason now) he got a call from the governor on his home telephone as he stood in his kitchen. When he discovered he was speaking to the governor he immediately took his hat of his head and said "It's nice to have your voice enter our home governor" the audience [ A big laughter]of course this was a comedy show and expected to bring laughs.

However, this brings to mind of how the old timers used to believe men in a position such as politics supposedly working for the people were in a special category of greatness. The job of serving the people was considered as respectable as preachers preaching the word of God. Only a certain gifted and blessed individual could hold such an important position.
I wish politicians would consider the seriousness of holding a position in politics. Not look at it as a challenge or some sort of adventure. However, as a truly responsible position working for all the people, not only a special class. The way our founding fathers intended it to be. We have always put our trust in our leaders, they should consider the grave responsibility of the seat they occupy and stand accountable for all the decisions they have made on the behalf of the welfare of the people they have chosen to represent and serve.

She was a very good doctor, but the condition of the world back then was in very bad shape. David an excellent article and well done. I liked your ending "We have always put our trust in our leaders, they should consider the grave responsibility of the seat they occupy and stand accountable for all the decisions they have made on the behalf of the welfare of the people they have chosen to represent and serve. " Now if they would only get to read your article it may turn on a light. Please log in to respond to this comment.Thank you Mr. Melaccio, I appreciate your opinion. I'm afraid politics are merely a vehicle for the building of wealth, or a play area for the rich and privileged. Someone with a real desire to serve is not likely to get elected. Please log in to respond to this comment.Yeah, you make a great deal of sense here Ken, however there are many good politicians who try to do good. Please log in to respond to this comment.
