Definition of a baby boomer

The U.S. Census Bureau considers a baby boomer to be someone of the generation born between 1946 and 1964

Influential authors Strauss and Howe, label American Baby Boomers between 1943-60.

I'm proud to be among what has been known to be called the baby boomer generation, most of our parents lived through the great depression and either served in or were living during WWII. Our generation was introduced to television the stars of that era (the 50s and 60s) were very special to us baby boomers.

They helped nurture us into fine citizens by bringing the history of our nation into focus. They helped us see the good and the bad in all of us. From the rugged John Wayne to the hilarious Lucille Ball who taught us all moral lessons in life.

Many of us served in Vietnam however, those who demonstrated against the war were just as patriotic as those who served in war. Our generation was one who sought peace, the flower children of that day with their idealistic dreams tried to show the world a better way.

From the rock and roll era of the 50s to the generation gap of the 60s, we baby boomers made a difference in the world, a difference for all to see.

We lived through the assassination of the Kennedy's and Martin Luther King Jr., we saw to it that their dreams came true.

Yes ask a baby boomer if he/she remembers the turbulent times of the 60s, to those who's heart ruled them in those days will undoubtedly answer YES!, whew, with a sigh of relief.

Hi Dave,

You forgot to add that we set the record straight as far as being "color blind" and that we accepted people on merit and not by the color of their skin and what religion their believed in.

Thank you for adding what I forgot to mention Iris. Yes we were color blind and believed we were all equal by God's law no matter what religion we belonged to.

Hi David, what a wonderful article. And thanks for sharing the year(s) of the baby boomer. I have heard this saying all my life and never thought to ask what qualified a person for this era. You taught me something new today. Blessings to you! Teresa

Thank you for commenting Susan, yes the 60s were filled with all kinds of nuts. But society in general was responsible for the peculiar behavior in people back then.

I'm a Baby Boomer, born in 1950. I kind of wish I had been born a little earlier, as I liked the '50s more than the '60s and wish I had been a teenager in the '50s, rather than a child. I think us Canadian Baby Boomers had an easier life than our American cousins, as we did not have a military draft and the majority of us never served in any military mission, nor served in the military at all for that matter. Life has been pretty good for us and the memories have been sweet.

Yes David, I am proud to be a baby boomer, I was born in 1946, and I can remember the 1st round tube TV , but even before that, Only the Shadow Knew!, I do remember the 60's, I was in Vietnam at the time, doing 3 tours of combat, only to come home as the enemy. It was a different time, the flower children started a new revolution in our thought process, some good, some bad, but indeed we did make a difference. If I had it to do all over again, I would. My favorite time in my life, was in the 50's however. When life was a little more simpler, the Saturday matinee was only a quarter and popcorn was 5 cents. Ah, the good old days...Great article wonderfully told. As usual, you held my attention.....I still miss Abbott and Costello!!

Thank you for commenting Gary, I was born in 1948, we were one of the first families to have a television in my neighbor. I too served in Vietnam, I was in the Marine Corps infantry. Yes the 50's were much simpler than the 60's. I respected these flower children, those who cared not those who would use violence to make their point.
