Should Religion and Moral Views Be Handled Politically?

Although I was born and raised catholic, today I do not attend church services. I do believe in God however, my stance on abortion and gay rights has nothing to do with the Bible and its teachings. I believe life begins at conception. I don't need a member of congress telling me that murder can be justifiable. Nor do I need a member of the clergy telling me abortion is against God's law.

All I need do is look at a new-born baby and say to myself "That little life I'm looking at, at this moment wouldn't be here right now if his or her mother would have had an abortion." it's like pulling a flower from the ground roots and all before its had a chance to bloom.

The subject matter here is whether the government should get involved in the issue of abortion and gay marriage. We do have laws that will protect us from anyone out to kill us. Well I believe the government should become involved in the abortion issue by simply saving the lives of innocent unborn children. Moral laws to protect the innocent yes I believe in this strongly.

Now on the gay rights issue and same sex marriage, I don't believe God has laws against homosexuality. Many great people from the past have been gay. I will admit when I see two men or two women kissing I feel a little jittery. However, that's me, the feeling I have is shared by many heterosexuals I'm not saying homosexuality is wrong. Now gay marriage again I lean against the issue but I must try to understand and respect their (the gay couple) beliefs.

Should the government get involved in the gay marriage issue? At this time, I don't know but I am open for different opinions and views.

Hi David, I love the way you describe the beauty of a baby beginning at conception. After all, how could they grow if they didn't have a heart beat? You mentioned that you didn't believe God has an issue with homosexuality, but according to his word he does, it goes against creation itself. However, like you mentioned, should the government be involved..I say yes and if the Leadership of the country keeps shoutin God's name, then they should do it God's way, or else remain silent. Anyway, sorry, this is your article, not mine. Well done David.
