In June of 1968, I was in Vietnam our company was on an L. Z. (Landing zone) waiting for helicopters to pick us up and head off on another operation. That's when we got the news about Bobby Kennedy's assassination.

Our nation and its citizens were undergoing turbulent times. There was a war going on in the country as well as in Vietnam. With the hippies, yippies, and whatever. All those radical groups in those days all looking for a new direction.
When I was released from the military in '69, I went straight to work. However, the condition of the world was in bad shape in those days.
One would think, me, as a war veteran would have been against these longhaired freaks of those days. Quite contrary I was for them, not the ones who would use violence to make their point. However, those with idealistic views, those who would use peace and love to get their message across.

A lot has changed in the past 40 years; I believe they've changed for the better. But, if our politicians would unite rather than having, two major parties (democrats and republicans)
Unite as one whole people in peace and love then we could move on to better times and solve all of our problems.
Our nation has been through difficult times in the past in fact our nation was born through violence and different points of view. Many lives were lost in an attempt to bring that distant dream that Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of. The dream of peace and equality among us all.
We are of the verge of electing a black man as president .Oh if only Mr. King could only see this day.
