Election Year 08 (Poem)

The time is drawing nearer - the time to cast our vote.

Those running for office are at each other's throat.

A seat in the oval office is what they seek

For the title of commander in chief - so to speak

Promises, promises, that's what we all hear

However, will they deliver if elected - are they sincere?

Their speeches sound great - only do they speak their own words.

Or are they all written by some high scholar nerds

Yes I will cast my vote - for it's the American way

I just hope I'm not just another victim being led astray

Our founding fathers created this system for us to live by

Still we find it so hard to see - eye to eye

Every four years it's the same old story

Politicians line up - for they claim to want to serve old glory

It's not a perfect system to elect our officials to serve

But it's the best one we have - our constitution we must preserve

hi david, very true, every vote counts. this was a well written poem, poetry is an art in itself, and fun to read, especially when it makes sense! this is such a monumental year, to go down in History, either a woman president, who is married to a former president, or a black president. that's one for the history books. unless....someone else creeps in. thanks for sharing, best regards, sue

No, not yet -- life is still spinning but thank God Gary found a decent job in Charleston which, ironically, is only 2 hours from where we presently live -- he's moving today and the next 6 weeks will find Laura and I going back and forth moving things into our new home until she completes the third grade. Thanks for asking!
