Election Year 08 (Poem)

The time is drawing nearer - the time to cast our vote.
Those running for office are at each other's throat.
A seat in the oval office is what they seek
For the title of commander in chief - so to speak
Promises, promises, that's what we all hear
However, will they deliver if elected - are they sincere?
Their speeches sound great - only do they speak their own words.
Or are they all written by some high scholar nerds
Yes I will cast my vote - for it's the American way
I just hope I'm not just another victim being led astray
Our founding fathers created this system for us to live by
Still we find it so hard to see - eye to eye

Every four years it's the same old story
Politicians line up - for they claim to want to serve old glory
It's not a perfect system to elect our officials to serve
But it's the best one we have - our constitution we must preserve

hi david, very true, every vote counts. this was a well written poem, poetry is an art in itself, and fun to read, especially when it makes sense! this is such a monumental year, to go down in History, either a woman president, who is married to a former president, or a black president. that's one for the history books. unless....someone else creeps in. thanks for sharing, best regards, suePlease log in to respond to this comment.Thank you for commenting Susan. Bravo, David -- very eloquently written! Thanks! Please log in to respond to this comment.Thank you Judy, are you all moved yet? Please log in to respond to this comment. No, not yet -- life is still spinning but thank God Gary found a decent job in Charleston which, ironically, is only 2 hours from where we presently live -- he's moving today and the next 6 weeks will find Laura and I going back and forth moving things into our new home until she completes the third grade. Thanks for asking! Please log in to respond to this comment.
