"If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s a case of those annoying hiccups."
a spasm of the diaphragm resulting in a rapid, involuntary inhalation that is stopped by the sudden closure of the glottis and accompanied by a sharp, distinctive sound. b. hiccups also hiccoughs. An attack of these spasms.

Some say pinching your nose, closing your mouth and blowing out works. When I was very young, my cousin told me taking a spoonful of sugar never fails. Well I had a remedy that worked for me for a very long time. Simply holding my breath for as long as I could. However, one night I had a bad case of those irritating hiccups and no matter how much, or how long I tried holding my breath they just wouldn’t go away. Therefore, I remembered my cousin’s suggestion of a spoonful of sugar so I tried it and it was like a miracle after I swallowed the spoonful of sugar my hiccups were gone.
Since then every time I get a spell of the hiccups I take a spoonful of sugar into my mouth and swallow it and it works every time. (well let me say 95% of the time) When someone I’m around has the hiccups, I’ll tell him or her of my remedy and after they try it, they’re amazed at how quickly and effectively it works ridding them of their hiccups. Try it the next time you get a spell of the hiccups.
Hi David. Your breathing is actually regulated by the amount of carbon dioxide in your blood rather than by oxygen. The higher the level of CO2, the more urgent the urge to breathe. My sure fire cure (works 100% of the time) is to breath into a plastic zip lock bag until I feel a bit dizzy. Sit down while you do this. Don't use a thing walled plastic bag. As you rebreathe your own air, the CO2 level goes up rapidly and your body sort of says "Oh no! Oxygen is sort of scarce right now. We'd better breathe normally." And the hiccups go away. A neat trick with which to amaze your friends and cure their hiccups (don't divulge the secret) is this: Ask someone with the hiccups what they had for lunch (or dinner) yesterday. If they come up with that too fast keep asking into the past. After a moment of this tell them that their hiccups are gone. I have never had this not work and I can't tell you why it does. Please log in to respond to this comment.Very interesting trick, I'll try it on someone sometimes. thanksPlease log in to respond to this comment.
