“When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow." Anais Nin

This quote is an unwarranted truth for it is in our nature to except a religion, political system, or some form of literary dogma. For some of us had no choice but to conform to a nurturing we received from the trust of a well-intentioned parent or teacher, who reared us with love and a concern for our welfare.

Before we can take off the blindfold, we must first understand and respect what we have always known to be as a truth. In addition, most importantly, we also must understand the reason why we have been taught these essential set of laws and code of ethics to live by, by those who’s only concern was our own welfare.

Then we still cannot break away from living the life as the automaton we have become if we have responsibilities such as families to support. For this is one of the main reasons we were nurtured as we were from loved ones who were slaves of our political system and reality as we know it is a fact we must all face for by conforming to this life style is what feeds us. "right or wrong"

“We must rapidly begin the shift from a "thing-oriented" society to a "person-oriented" society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered." Martin Luther King Jr.

If we have the means to break away from the herd and have the opportunity to question religion, or our political system, we must realize we cannot grow alone we are members of the family of man. For what good is one’s enlightenment if not shared such as watering flowers in a garden with the knowledge we have acquired so they too can grow.

“One of the most important resources that a garden makes available for use is the gardener's own body. A garden gives the body the dignity of working in its own support. It is a way of rejoining the human race." Windell Berry

“In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing" Mark Twain

Again, this quote from Mark Twain is unfair but quite true. We are all victims of receiving hand me downs. Our acquired education whether religious teachings, or political theories, we are receiving the thoughts and beliefs of others. However, there is a positive side to all of this. Through generations of learning through the process of trial and error, what we have learned from another’s research we can differentiate the facts of two or more parties with opposing views and determine for ourselves what is the more accurate in the solving of the problem, or combining all theories to form a whole. Sort of like building a church (or solid foundation) with building blocks custom made and designed specifically for the purpose of peace, love, and understanding from inquiring minds and hearts from all over the world.

 Building blocks of knowledge

This is what I refer to as human evolution an unfolding of the thoughts, ideas, theories, from previous generations throughout the history of humanity. With so much diversity among us (we) as the children of a very complex and misunderstood God, we are on an endless mission of seeking the truth.

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." Albert Einstein

Just as I have selected these specific quotes as a means of detailing the highlights of my article, they were chosen not only for the reason but also by recognizing the love and concern embedded in them by the author.

“We know the truth, not only by the reason, but also by the heart. “
Blaise Pascal

Is this what his (God‘s) intention was all along for us but to find ourselves through ourselves? When we can truly call ourselves free and liberated. Will this day ever become a reality here on Earth? Well in my opinion, not unless we make an effort to work towards this goal as a united not a divided people all seeking a closure to human suffering through human development. J

Right on, David. Great article! When you write, " . . . seeking a closure to human suffering through human development" it sounds a lot like the Buddha, who said, "This is suffering. The cause of this suffering is craving. There is an cure that ends this craving. The cure is: right understanding, thought, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration. (The Buddha's Four Noble Truths). Best........e

Hello Susan, some people may find my article interesting and some may not. We all have our own interest, I know your articles are always comforting to read. You tell some good stories. Oh tell your partner this little joke about Romeo and Juliet and may make him laugh. “Twas in a restaurant they met, Romeo and Juliet .he had no cash to pay the dept , so Rome-owed what Juliet-ate.” take care
