A Thing Called LoveIn early 1972, President Richard Nixon began his peace journey around the world. He traveled to China, the first U.S. president to do so. He also went to Russia and several other countries. However first he opened our minds and our hearts to a little realization. They didn’t call him tricky Dickey for nothing; he had a secret message for the world. The message wasn’t new to man for it was as old as time itself. It was only hidden within, for those of us old enough to remember the times back then when LOVE made its debut from the back burner.
President Nixon and Chairman Mao The stars of that time were cutting loose the late Johnny Cash had a hit song which made it to the no. 2 spot on the country charts titled “A thing called love" here are the lyrics of this particular song
President Nixon and Johnny CashSix foot six he stood on the ground, he weighted 235 pounds
But I saw that giant of a man brought down to his knees by love
He was the kind of a man who would gamble on luck
Look you in the eye and never back up
But I saw him crying like a little whipped pup because of love
You can't see it with your eyes, hold it in your hands
But like the rules that govern our land
Strong enough to rule the heart of every man, this thing called love
It can lift you up, never let you down
Take your world and turn it all around
Ever since time nothing's ever been found that’s stronger than love
Most men like me they worry and doubt
They trouble their minds day in and day out
Too busy with livin' to worry about a little word like love
But when I see a mother's tenderness
As she holds her young close to her breast
Then I thank God that the worlds
Been blessed with a thing called love

The protests, the flower children, Bobby Dillan, the peace movement, etc. Your article takes me back there when I sat on the campus of Berkley. NIce article! Please log in to respond to this comment.James, didn't your campus and all the universities at that time quite down?
